IAF means INDIAN AIR FORCE the pride of India. Indian Air Force
is the very powerful Air force of the world. After United States Air force,
Russian Air Force, and Israeli Air Force, our Indian Air Force is the Fourth
largest force in the world. The Indian Air Force (IAF) was officially
established on 8 October, 1932, by the British Empire. The IAF provides air
supports to the Indian Army on the battleground. IAF play most important in any
war and support during the natural calamities. Indian Air Force can operate in
any weather and any situation.
Recently the IAF has created a record by landing on the highway. More than 170,000 personnel are in service with IAF. The IAF is a part of the Indian Armed Forces which performs important work of air warfare, air security, and air surveillance for the country. Before independence, it was known as the Royal Indian Air Force . After becoming a full republic in 1950, its name was changed to Indian Air Force (IAF).
Commands
The IAF if divided into five operational and two functional commands.
Each Command is headed by an Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief with the rank of
Air Marshal. The purpose of an operational command is to conduct military
operations using aircraft within its area of responsibility.
Wings
A wing is a formation intermediate between a command and a squadron. It
generally consists of two of three IAF squadrons and helicopter units, along
with forward base support units (FBSU). FBSU act as transit airbases of routine Operations. Wings are typically commanded by an air
commodore.
Squadrons and units
Squadrons are the field units and formations attached to static
locations. Thus, a flying squadron or unit is a sub-unit of an air force
station which carries out the primary task of the IAF. All fighter squadrons are headed by a commanding
officer with the rank of wing commander.
Garud Commando Force
The Garud commandos are the special forces of the Indian Air Force.
Their tasks include counter-terrorism, hostage rescue etc.
